An innocuous gene-bearing virus injected into the midbrains of a dozen patients suffering from Parkinson's disease improved the subjects' motor function while causing no adverse effects, says a new study. This is the first time gene therapy has been tested to fight Parkinson's, which affects an estimated 500,000 Americans.
